Our Colorful European Neighborhood

 Workshop, 26 Sep 2025 - 03 Oct 2025, Θεσσαλονίκη, Greece

On the occasion of the European Day of Languages, the children of our kindergarten create a very special neighborhood: A collection of colorful little houses, painted in the colors of the flags of different European countries. In each house a small word is “hidden” in another language – a bridge word, such as “Hello”, “Friend”, or “Good morning”. Through this activity, the children discovered that even though there are many different languages, we all share the same values: friendship, communication, and cooperation. Our “Colorful European Neighborhood” reminds us that Europe is like one big home, where each country has its own language but we all live together, with respect and solidarity.

Vote for this year’s most innovative event!

To add a further element of spice to the Day, anyone visiting the website can vote for what they regard as the most innovative EDL event. This can be due to its creativity, transferability or just because it truly represents the spirit of the Day. Voting will be open for one month, from 20 September – 20 October, with the winner to be announced in December. There will be a small prize for the organizer of the event which receives the most votes.

2024's 'most innovative event' is
Long live the European Day of Languages/ Vive la Journée européenne des langues

The event received 1900+ votes and was organised by Lycée Alfred Mézières de Longwy, France.

Congratulations to the winners!

We were greatly impressed by the creativity and great effort which went into organising the events submitted and would like to thank all organisers of EDL events in 2024.
