Drs Fransiska Louwagie and Clémence O’Connor (University of Aberdeen) will discuss Aberlangs, a partnership initiative supporting multilingualism and the presence of home, heritage and community languages in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. Promoting Aberdeen as a City of Languages which celebrates multilingualism as a positive force within the city and its broader surroundings, the initiative aims to bring together researchers in languages, linguistics, cultures and societies from the University of Aberdeen with a broad range of local and regional stakeholders and right holders. Cities of languages build on the idea that languages learning and the value of home, heritage and community languages (of Scottish as well as wider origins) are an asset to both individuals and collective

Vote for this year’s most innovative event!  

To add a further element of spice to the Day, anyone visiting the website can vote for what they regard as the most innovative EDL event. This can be due to its creativity, transferability or just because it truly represents the spirit of the Day. Voting will be open for one month, from 20 September – 20 October, with the winner to be announced in December. There will be a small prize for the organizer of the event which receives the most votes.

2024's 'most innovative event' is
Long live the European Day of Languages/ Vive la Journée européenne des langues

The event received 1900+ votes and was organised by Lycée Alfred Mézières de Longwy, France.
