European detectives

 Celebration, 22 Sep 2025 - 22 Sep 2025, Tvrdošín, Slovakia

Participants can try out various interactive stations focused on languages, countries, and culture, such as quizzes, matching games, tongue twisters, assembling landmarks from puzzles, or deciphering proverbs with emojis. Each station develops knowledge about the history, geography, food, sports, music, and traditions of different countries. The main activity is creating a travel guide for a randomly assigned country. Students prepare a booklet or leporello with information about the country, its landmarks, traditional food, music, sports, famous personalities, and interesting facts. The guide also includes maps, illustrations, photos, and short phrases in the local language.

To add a further element of spice to the Day, anyone visiting the website can vote for what they regard as the most innovative EDL event. This can be due to its creativity, transferability or just because it truly represents the spirit of the Day. Voting will be open for one month, from 20 September – 20 October, with the winner to be announced in December. There will be a small prize for the organizer of the event which receives the most votes.

2024's 'most innovative event' is
Long live the European Day of Languages/ Vive la Journée européenne des langues

The event received 1900+ votes and was organised by Lycée Alfred Mézières de Longwy, France.

Congratulations to the winners!

We were greatly impressed by the creativity and great effort which went into organising the events submitted and would like to thank all organisers of EDL events in 2024.
