Giornata Europea delle lingue - presso sede ED Napoli, 30 settembre, ore 10.30

Language Day, 30 Sep 2025, Napoli, Italy

Under the motto “Languages open hearts and minds!” of the Council of Europe, we are organizing an event for students and young people on the European Day of Languages, September 30, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at our headquarters at Piazza Cavour 38, ground floor. The motto “Languages open hearts and minds” was chosen to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Council of Europe. It emphasizes how language learning engages both emotions and the brain. Beyond improving brain function and building relationships, language learning enables the sharing of ideas, sentiments, and experiences, helping to nurture empathy and respect for various cultures and perspectives. The event begins with an opening speech by the Director and the Head of Europe Direct. Participants will then join small groups based on the language they are learning or interested in. Led by moderators (ESC volunteers and Erasmus+ trainees), each table offers engaging discussions, tailored materials, and practical language practice. Afterwards, the groups will compete against each other by demonstrating their ability to identify individual languages in the game “Which language is this?”, by listening to conversations in everyday contexts. In the game “Where am I?”, 20 randomly selected pictures from across Europe will be shown, and participants must guess where the pictures were taken. A short coffee break is planned at the end, to which everyone is invited.
