EDL National Competition 2025

Pupils anywhere in Sweden in the ages 13-18 are challenged to create a rebus based on a proverb in a european language. In this national competition, recurring annually since 2010, different techniques could be chosen, digital or manual, collage, clip art, drawings and paintings and the jury will appreciate the originality, understandability and artistic quality of the contributions.

Struggling to find ideas for an event for this year’s European Day of Languages? It can be challenging to organise events that are fun, inclusive, have an educational element and motivate a large number of people. Vote for this year’s most innovative event!  

To add a further element of spice to the Day, anyone visiting the website can vote for what they regard as the most innovative EDL event. This can be due to its creativity, transferability or just because it truly represents the spirit of the Day. Voting will be open for one month, from 20 September – 20 October, with the winner to be announced in December. There will be a small prize for the organizer of the event which receives the most votes.

2024's 'most innovative event' is
Long live the European Day of Languages/ Vive la Journée européenne des langues

The event received 1900+ votes and was organised by Lycée Alfred Mézières de Longwy, France.
